Index Card A Day Challenge and summer

Ahhh, summer is finally here! I started June 1st with the Daisy Yellow ICAD (Index Card a Day) challenge, and it has really sparked my creativity! I even created these cards as the foundation for my Art Journaling Adventure workshop I taught this past week. They are all my favorite verses about creativity.

I spent four days teaching a group of 5th-7th graders tons of fun techniques for art journaling. They left with their own mixed media art journals. I didn't realize how much I've missed teaching, and I'm so excited that I get to do it full time again this next school year as an art teacher!

These are all 3 x 5 index cards. Tammy has prompts each week that you can use if you want, but the challenge is to create a card a day for 60 days. My girls have even enjoyed the process! If you love creating, this is a fun and easy way to create every day-you can join in at anytime.

If you want to see more of the cards I've created, and the one's my girls have been creating, follow me on Facebook. Here's some highlights from my art journaling workshop…

Students learned about color...

Backgrounds, layering, stencils...

Journaling prompts and beautiful pages to fill...

Each student made their own stamp…

Collage and texture

Taking journals apart and putting them back together.

And celebrating that we are all created in the image of the greatest artist of all times!

  1. Your students are so lucky to have you. One of the things I've wanted to try is making my own stamp. Haven't done it yet. You are inspiring me! Love it when that happens!

So glad I found you here today... I linked up, too.. number 35 just an fyi.

Look forward to seeing more of your cards!

  2. This is amazing! Did you design this workshop for kids all on your own? I thought about offering a week like that for a summer art camp this year but fear held me back. I have no formal training in art. Just an elem ed teacher who dabbles in art journaling now and loves it. Afraid I'm not "expert" enough. Know what I mean? Any advice you could offer? Just wasn't sure if I had my ducks in a row and "perfected" quite enough. Your stuff looks amazing! So inspired. Did you Documented Life this year by chance? I started that. Doing ICAD as well.

  3. So inspired to see that you taught a class to youngsters on art journaling! Did you come up with the lessons all on your own or use an existing curriculum? I had thought about offering something like that this year for a summer camp session at our local art center, but fear held me back. Just felt like I wasn't ready, not enough training or preparedness. I'm a kindergarten teacher by training. No professional art background. Dabble in it for fun but always concerned that I need professional expertise before venturing out to share with others. Know what I mean? But I love the practice of art journaling so much, and especially with my quiet time! Your work is beautiful. Love, love, love it. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Oh, and no,Lori, I have not ever done documented life, but I love seeing their beautiful journals. I think that would be too much for me. ICAD is a stretch, but do-able.
